Conceived in a stylistic climate that was still in line with the presumptions of post-Macchiaiolism, the work entitled L’incendio degli sterpi distinguishes the landscape poetry of Anchise Picchi, aimed at setting the peasant’s epic in compositions that were emphasised by dramatic bright counterpoint that highlight symbolic and intimistic implications.

It was Luigi Servolini, a friend and admirer of the artist, who returned the lyrical components of the country iconography, preferred by Picchi from his début, in terms of “a finely impressionist taste with broad landscape views, created with wide brush strokes left without paste, under stormy skies, pets, work scenes with figures backlit, country roads, open fires, country houses (...), works all created with a great love for nature, a lyrical sense, in radiant light, painted in the studio or outdoors ” (L. Servolini (by), Anchise Picchi , exhibition catalogue, Casciana Terme 1978).

After moving to Collesalvetti in the mid-20s, the artist had the opportunity to frequent other artists such as Francesco and Luigi Gioli, as well as Carlo Servolini, until, having moved to Livorno in 1956, became friends and shared artistic ideas with some members of the Gruppo Labronico, including Cafiero Filippelli, Corrado Michelozzi, Renato Natali, Gino Romiti and, above all, Lando Landozzi with whom he worked for the publishing work of the Commedia Labronica delle belle Arti (Lecco 1960).
