Being a shipwright is more an art than a job. For thousands of years, they have modelled wood, changed it and turned it into hulls that can sail across the waters.
The shipwright's skill lies in matching their thorough knowledge of various types of wood and their different properties with the ability to shape and adapt the wood for its final function. Once upon a time, this operation was carried out using a tool called a maul, whereas today a big part of the process is carried out using simple machinery such as saws, planes, milling machines, electrical lathes etc.
