The first official extraction of the lottery game

First Lottery extraction

One fun fact, in 1749, under the arcade, the first official extraction of the city lottery took place on a mobile wooden platform, assembled each time the extraction took place and stored in one of the rooms of the nearby prison. The subjects involved in the game operations were the Government auditor, the Director of the Custom Offices, the Civil Chancellor, a child who extracted the number, the Notary, a Lottery Minister who placed the numbers in the balls and a courier who moved the urn containing the 90 numbers.  The Announcer stood up, read out the extracted number then threw the selected number to the people. The structure was then replaced by a masonry platform built on the site to the side of the nearby Spedale di Sant’Antonio.
