Two sculptures by the artist Renato Spagnoli (Livorno 1928 - 2019 ) have been installed in the centrally-located Piazza Grande and Piazza Attias in Livorno.
Spagnoli, an extraordinary artist from Livorno, led a reserved life, and from 1960, was known for his research of painting and sculpting that was a long way from figuration and close to the trend of Action painting and classic Abstractism. He founded the Atoma Group in 1963, and until the 90s was close to tangible visual poetry, in line with the optical and kinetic research. By repeating the letter A, he created a painting and sculpting code that distinguished a large part of this work.
Co-founder of the Atoma Group in 1964 with Bartoli, Graziani and Lacquaniti, with whom he exhibited in several art galleries and national collections and marked in the Bolaggi catalogue, the artist is already present in the urban context of Livorno with his art. Author of the large A project in Piazza Attias transformed after redevelopment work, he has left a trace of his stylistic style in Piazza Grande too.
