The Port of Livorno is one of Gugliemo Micheli's most important works, and can be visited at the Fattori Civic Museum.
It is a faithful portrayal of the Porto Mediceo, in particular the Andana degli Anelli, of which a part of the quay with bollards tied with cords and chains can be seen in the foreground. Immediately behind, painted with meticulous detail, we see several ships docked: boats and “becolini” (to transport goods in the city’s canals - the “fossi” - and those in the region).
The tiny, rapid brush strokes linger on the production of light and the reflections on the water, but also on the various objects and the expression of the depth of planes.
