"Modigliani and his Montparnasse adventure"

At the end of his stay in 1909, the young Amedeo Modigliani left Livorno to return to his chosen city, Paris. He returned to the city of his birth on another two occasions, for short periods: his life was in the French capital, with his new friends and new loves. 

The love between Modigliani and Paris was reciprocated:  it was with him and his painting companions - and many other artists who livened up that district in those years - that the legend of Montparnasse began, and with them a new phase of the history of art began. 

This exciting period is the subject of an extraordinary exhibition organised by Livorno City Council in the City Museum “Modigliani and the Montparnasse adventure“, curated by Marc Restellini and coordinated by Sergio Risaliti, which opened on 7 November and will continue until 16 February 2020. 

A unique event for the city of Livorno, which should not be missed.

The journey to discover the young Modigliani ends here, on the threshold of the exhibition, ideally at the end of Modigliani's life in Livorno and at the start of his period in Montparnasse.
