Apart from the outermost perimeter walls, which enclosed a much larger area than that of today's village, several internal walls protected the ancient city, one of which has been identified in the Costa dei Lippi Archaeological Area (entered from the square of the modern-day cemetery), where one of the entry gates to the city probably also stood. Some architectural terracotta fragments have been found, suggesting the presence of a small sacred building (sacellum), built to protect and watch over the gate itself.
